Even now, can we give thanks?
Action & impact: July update
As we come to the end of another academic year, we would usually be looking back, celebrating and reflecting on all that has happened. Whilst the unusual nature of this year might make this seem strange, at Mahabba we still have so much to be thankful for in all that God has done. Your support has enabled many Muslims to be shown the love of Jesus as connections have been made, friendships formed and conversations opened-up between Christians and their Muslim neighbours.
This month we look back at some of Mahabba’s highlights from this year:
Relational Connections
Mahabba’s ongoing work to equip all Christians to show the love of Jesus to their Muslim neighbours means that much of our impact is through personal friendship and relationship-building in our different walks of life.
There have been many new connections made across different cities and towns in both the UK and overseas. We’ve seen friendships built at local mosques, connections made with Muslim families through youth groups and after-school clubs, Muslims being included in Christian-based workshops in the workplace and education, as well as many individuals who are resourced through the Mahabba network being able to share stories and good news with Muslims wherever they are. Events like Hope in Croydon – where drama and a shared meal brings Christians and Muslims together – and the Woking International Carol Service in December, offered opportunities for these growing connections.
Equipping For Everyone
Crossing cultural divides can feel unknown and challenging and a key part of Mahabba’s work is to overcome this by equipping Christians and churches to be able to demonstrate God’s love to Muslims. Through the network this year we’ve been able to run training in resources such as Prophet Stories an Friendship First that can help Christians open-up conversations with Muslims and know how to find common ground in their faith backgrounds. This has brought many opportunities for individuals across the network to use this training to develop conversations with Muslims – it was wonderful to hear how doors opened at a local mosque in Southampton with an invitiation to share food and faith.
Even with the restrictions of COVID-19, training is still ongoing and more possibilities have opened up to connect across a broader geography of the network, using online tools. With your ongoing support this equipping is made possible and we hope to hear of many more connections and opportunities to share with Muslims through these resources.
Pray, Pray, Pray
The restrictions on our way of life have not stopped us from praying this year. There have not only been many incredible opportunities to pray for Muslims and answered prayers in connections across the network, but there has been continued momentum in response to the call to pray for Muslims at this time. Mahabba’s Lovefast initiative coincided with the UK lockdown but it allowed Christians to come together virtually and be informed in their prayers for the Muslim world during the 30 days of Ramadan. There was some great feedback through social media and even new connections made with Muslim background believers, looking for ongoing discipleship.
As we look forward to a new academic year from September, we are really grateful for your support which allows Mahabba to continue to pursue a vision to demonstrate God’s love to all Muslims with grace and truth. We hope you will look forward with us and be part of seeing Christians equipped in this way for the coming year.
P.S. Whilst you’re here …
Could you support the work of Mahabba?
Mahabba does vital work to see all Muslims reached with the love of Jesus. Our work equips and supports Christians to demonstrate this to Muslims in all spheres of society. Why not support this vital work through a regular financial donation:
