WHY IS MAHABBA NEEDED?

Over the last 30 years Muslims have been migrating around the world and local communities growing. At present, there are around 1,800 mosques in the UK and census data from 2021 indicates that there are about 3.9 million Muslims in the UK.

In the United States, the Muslim population is projected to more than double in the next 20 years, from nearly 2.6 million in 2010 to about 6.2 million in 2030, and accounting for 1.7% of the population. This is estimated to be a larger number than any other European country (other than Russia and France).

In Europe itself, the Muslim population is projected to exceed 58 million by 2030, making up 8% of the population. Most will continue to live in eastern Europe, but some of the biggest increases are expected to occur in France, Italy and Germany.

At the same time, many local people find themselves alienated from the Muslim people around them, either fearful of causing offence or even angry at the perceived rapid islamisation of their cities.

However, it’s time to face the facts and not fuel the fear.

This is a remarkable opportunity for Christians around the globe to recognise that God has brought to their country many Muslims who are earnestly seeking a deeper life in God, desperate to find a sense of belonging in alien lands and find a purpose for their lives.

Through persistent weekly prayer by thousands of ordinary Christians and local church leaders in unity, equipped through materials and resources, Mahabba is a positive and viable alternative to current responses of fear, ignorance, apathy, or even violence.
