Engaging in Different Languages

Resources > Engaging with Muslims > Engaging in different languages

The number of resources available in other languages is increasing all the time, not only in the form of print, audio and video but also digital TV channels and online communities. What’s more, these days people know how to find things on line for themselves.

When we meet someone whose first language is not English, there is a tendency for us to want to give them something – usually scripture – in their own language. This may be well-intentioned, but can create unanticipated problems. They may feel targeted. It may be that they are not literate and are embarrassed by the gift. Often what they need most is a friend, someone will be patient with them and find out about them before recommending particular resources. It is not difficult to ask someone if they have ever seen a Bible in their own language before asking if they would like one.
