Action & Impact August Update
The Mahabba Network is unlike many other charitable organisations in that we work with a grassroots setup. We are all about the network groups that meet for prayer, support and encouragement. Those groups are the thing that drives us forward and motivates the work that we do.
Our groups
We have around 70 Mahabba groups that meet all around the UK, from Aberdeen to Portsmouth, Preston to Bristol. Some groups meet as much as two times a week for prayer, others gather faithfully once a month. A typical group would meet once a week to pray but might also run courses, socials and projects. They include individuals who are actively engaging with Muslim people – working with asylum seekers, running English classes, meeting one-to-one – to those who simply have a heart for the work.

Events in the new term
As well as the regular prayer meetings and gatherings, some of our groups are planning specific events for the new school term.
One of our groups is hoping to run a Friendship First course. For those of you who haven’t come across it before, Friendship First is an interactive, non-specialist course that helps Christians approach their Muslim friends with knowledge and confidence. It aims to equip individuals with the skills and resources to be a living witness to our Muslim cousins. The course runs for six weeks and includes a visit to a local mosque. It is a great way to remind the church that reaching out to Muslims is not a job for specialists but something that we can all be doing through relationship.
Another of our groups is hosting a Christmas ideas session. The aim is to gather those who are working with Muslims and share ideas about what to do for Christmas – what things have worked in the past, what things are planned for this coming Christmas. It is a space to bounce ideas around such as inviting the neighbours round for Christmas nibbles; sharing the Christmas story in a different way; going into schools to make Christingles. It will also be a time to share resources that have been helpful in the past.
Thank you
The money that you give to the Mahabba network helps us to support these groups and keep them running. Thank you for your commitment and generosity.
P.S.
Our local Mahabba groups are the centre of our work as a network. If you’re not connected already, why not get in touch or connect up with someone you know?
