Action & impact: November update
During this Autumn term we’re taking the opportunity to look at our four mission goals and how your giving equips the vital work of Mahabba.
This month, we see how you are supporting Mahabba in Envisioning the Christian community: Inspiring church leadership with what God is doing and helping churches see their own vision fulfilled for Muslims to have the opportunity to follow Jesus.
Part of our core ethos is to see churches be a blessing to the nations on our ‘doorstep’. We want to spark passion in churches - to see and seize the opportunities God has brought to their towns and cities.
Mahabba is envisioning churches in many ways – through sharing inspiring stories of what God is doing; through helping churches to strategise and equip church members through courses and resources.
One local Mahabba group was able to envision local churches to join in with this vital work:
At a local ‘Churches Together’ leaders’ meeting, I was able to present the vision of church-based outreach to Muslims. It was attended by more than 30 leaders who then launched a weekly prayer initiative, which has led to coordinated outreach to Muslims.
It has felt really important to find and serve alongside local church leaders, who share the vision and are open to collaborate. We are also investing time in talking with church leaders one-to-one, to grow church interest and involvement. So far we have run training courses in three churches.
Mahabba also works to envision churches through courses and resources. Joining the Family helps Christians to understand the Muslim faith and how they might be able to integrate those with a Muslim background.
The Joining the Family course was superb – it was great to have the Brits seeing the importance of being family to those with a Muslim background and our Iranian church members seeing the church as theirs and beginning to take ownership of what happens. We also had two of the Brits engaging with our Farsi-speaking fellowship and befriending newcomers. Many others are asking when we are running the course again!
The impact that Mahabba can have in envisioning churches can lead to wonderful testimonies of family and integration:
We continued to see numbers of believers from Muslim background grow. We started to run weekly Bible studies. Our Morning and Evening services were translated live through wireless head sets in Farsi.
More asylum seekers started coming to our church as well as a couple of believing Farsi translators, who had a vision for God's work. The rest of the church really opened their hearts, homes and gave generously to needs. It was the integration with the rest of the church that grew relationships and saw more from a Muslim background connect with us.
