Why we love stories

For Mahabba, it’s all about the relationship – not strategies, not techniques, just a real love for our Muslim friends and neighbours. And that’s why we love hearing stories from our groups. Stories are a genuine reflection of the work that our members are doing, and they spur us on and encourage us.

A story from Bristol

We wanted to share this story with you from our Bristol group:

Some individuals from Mahabba Bristol help run a weekly English conversation class for Muslim ladies. This year they have noticed a much greater open-ness to faith conversations being part of the discussions. At Christmas people just wanted to know the ‘real’ story of Christmas and many questions were asked. Mother’s Day preparations provided the opportunity to talk about the love and patience needed to be a mother and question where the source of those qualities lies. During a series on proverbs in different languages, they were able to share the stories of women that Jesus met and impacted – noting that proverbs about women often speak of shame.

Thank God for these open ears and hearts and continue to pray for opportunities to speak clearly for Him.

Meet the volunteer

Hi, my name’s Emma and I’ve been volunteering with Mahabba for a couple of months now. I’m working with the Support, Promo and Resources Circles doing emails, databasing, writing these blog posts and updating the website. My journey with the Muslim world began back in 2006 with a visit to friends in Syria. Since then, I’ve done some short-term work with teams in Muslim countries and lived with my family for nearly 7 years in Egypt. Now that we’re settled back in the South West, far from any Muslim communities, it is good for me to still feel connected by supporting the work of Mahabba.

Could you help?

If you, or anyone you know, has spare time to offer to Mahabba there are vacancies to be fulfilled such as working with social media and fostering healthy discussions on our community platform.

For more info and for a friendly chat about whether this could be a good fit for you, get in touch with Simon by e-mail hello@mahabbanetwork.com
